Find a GCSE English Literature tutor
A GCSE English Literature tutor can help your child move from knowing the story to writing a convincing, thoughtful argument about it. Whether they struggle with Shakespeare, poetry comparison or choosing useful quotations, GoodGrade Tutors offers one to one support shaped around their texts and exam board. Lessons give pupils time to ask questions, practise close analysis and build confidence without the pressure of a classroom. Tutoring is available online across the UK, with in person sessions in selected areas. We focus on clear explanations and purposeful practice, so your child understands both what to write and why it works.

What our GCSE English Literature tutoring covers
Sessions focus on the texts your child studies and the requirements of their exam board, including AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas. Depending on their course, this could include Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls or their prescribed poetry anthology.
Tutors help pupils explore character, theme, language, form and structure, while using historical and social context where it strengthens an interpretation. Poetry work can include comparing anthology poems, approaching unseen poetry and explaining the effects of imagery, rhythm and voice.
Essay practice turns that understanding into clear arguments. Pupils learn to select precise quotations, analyse individual words, organise paragraphs and keep answering the question. Sessions can also cover planning under timed conditions, remembering quotations and reviewing mock exam feedback. Rather than learning a model answer by heart, your child practises building a response that fits the question in front of them.
Who your tutor will be
GoodGrade tutors are Russell Group educated and 100% DBS checked. Your child's GCSE English Literature tutor will be matched with their learning needs, including the texts they study and the areas they find difficult. Strong subject knowledge matters, but so does explaining an idea clearly and giving a pupil space to think.
Lessons are one to one, so the tutor can adjust the pace, revisit an uncertain interpretation or spend longer on a paragraph that needs work. Feedback is specific and encouraging, with practical next steps rather than vague instructions to add more detail. GoodGrade has a 4.9 out of 5 average rating, and 93% of pupils improve at least one grade. Individual progress will vary.

Which GCSE English Literature exam boards do you cover?
Tutoring can support AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas courses. Share your child's exam board and set texts so lessons can focus on the right content, question formats and assessment requirements.
Can a tutor help with Shakespeare and poetry?
Yes. Sessions can break down challenging Shakespeare passages, explore characters and themes, and develop close language analysis. Poetry support can cover anthology comparisons and unseen poems, depending on your child's course.
How do lessons help pupils improve their essays?
Tutors help pupils plan a focused argument, choose relevant quotations and explain how a writer creates meaning. Through writing practice and specific feedback, pupils learn to develop their ideas rather than simply retell the plot.
Are sessions online or in person?
One to one sessions are available online across the UK. In person tutoring is also available in selected areas. Share your preference when finding your tutor matches.
Can tutoring help before GCSE mocks?
Yes. Lessons can prioritise weaker texts, quotation recall, essay planning and timed practice. If your child has already sat mocks, their marked work can help identify which skills need attention next.
