What our KS2 English tutoring covers
Lessons cover the reading, writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar skills your child needs at KS2. In reading, tutors work on fluency, vocabulary, retrieval, inference, prediction and explaining answers using evidence from a text. Pupils explore fiction, poetry and nonfiction, learning to recognise purpose, structure and language choices.
Writing support includes planning ideas, organising paragraphs, choosing precise vocabulary and editing work. Grammar and punctuation practice can cover word classes, tense, clauses, fronted adverbials, apostrophes and direct speech. Spelling work focuses on patterns, prefixes, suffixes and commonly confused words.
For pupils in England, lessons can also prepare them for Year 6 SATs through targeted practice and careful review of mistakes. KS2 SATs are national curriculum assessments, not qualifications set by GCSE exam boards such as AQA, Edexcel or OCR. For children elsewhere in the UK, tutors adapt support to their school curriculum.
Who your tutor will be
Your child needs someone who can explain ideas clearly and make it feel safe to get things wrong. GoodGrade Tutors offers Russell Group educated tutors, and every tutor is DBS checked. We help you find a ks2 english tutor whose approach suits your child's learning needs, confidence and goals.
A tutor might model how to find evidence in a passage, talk through a sentence before writing it or break a spelling pattern into small steps. The aim is understanding that your child can use independently at school. Across GoodGrade Tutors, the average rating is 4.9 out of 5, and 93% of pupils improve at least one grade. Individual progress will vary.
